Artificial sweeteners are not healthy alternatives to sugar

Sugar- and artificially-sweetened beverages and the risks of incident stroke and dementia: A prospective cohort study.

The dietary consumption of artificial sweeteners and risk of developing stroke and Alzheimer’s disease was monitored in 2888 participants for a period of 10 years.
The study concluded that consumption of artificial sweeteners more than once a week was associated with an increased risk of 2.96 (95% CI, 1.26–6.97) for ischemic stroke and 2.89 (95% CI, 1.18–7.07) for Alzheimer’s Disease.
